We should make elecrtic power mainstream for transportation because it is very flexible. when you look at the basics of the elecrtic motor you find that to generate electricity, the only thing needed is a spinning motion. It we use in-wheel electric motors for our cars, with two wheels propelling the car, and the other two generating electricity to power the motors propelling the car. This will increase range, in untested theory, to by infinite. But when you take in account powering alarm systems, radio, heating/ac, and the computors using to control the functions, you'll find it isn't so perpetual motion as first thought. This does improve the car by extending the range long enough to eliminate range anxiety, but the weak point is still the battery.
